Job description

Head of Finance

Atlanta, GA

Solving our climate crisis requires bold action, and with more than $20M from top-tier investors, Cloverly is on a mission to make it happen.

We’ve made big strides already—our groundbreaking platform for climate action is trusted by Fortune 500 firms from Visa to American Express—but as an experienced team of founders, builders, and sustainability nerds, we know the journey is only getting started. That’s where you come in.

As we grow, Cloverly is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Head of Finance to join our team. The Head of Finance will be responsible for leading the company's financial strategy and operations, and will work closely with the CEO and other members of the executive team to help drive growth and ensure financial stability.  You will play a foundational role by building and leading the company's in-house finance and accounting functions from scratch.

Your day-to-day will look like

  • Develop, implement, and manage Cloverly’s financial strategy, forecast, and budget. Develop a robust model for the purpose of forecasting, reporting, and simulating decisions.
  • Manage FP&A as a strategic thought leader who will deeply learn the business in and out.
  • Establish and manage the company's finance and accounting operations in accordance with US GAAP, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting, with a deep understanding of the unique financial and accounting requirements of the carbon credit market.
  • Oversee the transition of finance and accounting functions from outsourced vendors to in-house operations, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with banks, investors, and other key stakeholders, leveraging financial expertise to build trust and establish credibility as we establish our in-house finance and accounting capabilities.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to the CEO and other members of the executive team, leveraging industry knowledge and financial acumen to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Participate in fundraising activities, including preparing financial models and presentations for potential investors, with a deep understanding of the financial metrics and valuation methodologies relevant to the carbon credit market.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements in the carbon credit market, working closely with legal and regulatory teams to mitigate financial and reputational risks.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record leading and building a finance function for a high-growth, early stage startup.
  • Experience in or around the voluntary carbon markets or related industries, corporate sustainability, fintech/financial services, or multi-sided marketplaces, with an understanding of the regulatory environment and relevant financial standards
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with a proven track record of building and managing complex financial operations from scratch (including hiring, coaching, and managing a core accounting and finance team).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders in the carbon credit market.
  • Experience in fundraising and working with investors is a plus (especially later stage fundraising i.e., Series B+).
  • CPA, CFA, or other relevant certifications are preferred.
  • A passion for climate.
  • A strong bias for action and will to succeed; highly resourceful.
  • A history of or a desire to work in a high-growth, rapidly-evolving startup.
  • Adaptability and are comfortable amidst ambiguity, changing directives, and rapidly evolving market conditions.
  • A reputation for being a hard working, no-ego, no-politics, honest, and accountable team player who constantly raises the bar and is passionate about making an impact.
