Code First Girls (CFG) is seeking a committed and experienced freelance technical content creator to create course materials for our new C# Kickstarter class launching later this year.

  • Remuneration: a set fee calculated by CFG that will be based on expected deliverables (equating to £50/hour)

Course outline

Knowing C# is a sought-after skill by hiring employers in the tech world with many career pathways. Thousands of companies use Microsoft technologies in their infrastructure, and even when they don’t, C# is still a popular language for creating web services. As part of the CFG course, learners will understand the fundamentals of C#. At the end of the course, students will complete a group project. The CFG C# Kickstarter class will run over 8 weeks. Each session will have an hour of independent learning and a one-hour Live Lab, in line with CFG's new blended learning approach.

What we’re offering

The initial engagement will be a freelance contract for

  • the creation of course outcomes and curriculum overview

  • multiple choice questions and answers

  • coding project and exercises

  • independent learning and Live Lab slide decks, including exercises for learners to complete during the Live Lab session

  • independent learning video recordings

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who can create effective learning materials, using our guidelines for a beginner audience. CFG will support the content creator throughout the project and will provide key templates and guidelines. 

General Requirements

  • A UK/IE-based developer with 2+ years of experience minimum in a professional setting

  • Strong technical skills in C#

    • Control Structures
    • Decision making
    • Arrays
    • Collections
    • Methods
    • Functions
    • Object-oriented programming
  • Experience creating content (this can be formal or informal, for example, you have created tech or coding course content through work or other EdTech providers, or you have voluntarily created content for informal mentoring/tutoring at work. These are just examples, however, and we encourage you to apply no matter how formal/informal your experiences are!)

  • Passion for teaching, training or mentoring

‘Good to have’ requirements

  • Strong presentation skills and an understanding of learner communities

  • Ability to work with a group and collaborate (the content creator will be working closely with the CFG team)

  • Previous teaching experience (e.g. CFG courses)

  • Previous mentoring experience

  • Previous experience creating content for/delivering courses or technical workshops

Roles and responsibilities

As a content creator, you will:

  • Be responsible for ensuring that all relevant materials are created and shared with the CFG team by set deadlines

  • Create course slides (delivered as Google slides to the pre-agreed CFG template and format)

  • Create homework, assessments and project briefs, and accompanying marking schemes as required

  • Be responsive to feedback provided by the CFG team

  • Create student and instructor guides for the course (delivered as a Google document to the pre-agreed template and format) as required

  • Conduct one-two demo classes using the newly created content (virtually) to the CFG team
