Kelvin Zhang

Kelvin Zhang has a diverse work experience in the field of bioinformatics and data science. Kelvin currently holds the position of Senior Director and Head of Bioinformatics at Atlas Venture NewCo since May 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Codiak BioSciences as the Director and Head of Bioinformatics from November 2021 to May 2023, and as the Associate Director and Head of Bioinformatics from July 2019 to December 2021.

Before joining Codiak BioSciences, Kelvin worked at Merck as an Associate Principal Scientist from July 2018 to June 2019, and as a Senior Scientist in Computational Genomics and Genetics from December 2015 to June 2018. At Merck, they led the single cell genomics analysis for clinical and non-clinical studies and developed bioinformatics pipelines for high-throughput sequencing data analysis. Kelvin also managed NGS projects and provided data management solutions.

Kelvin has also worked as a Bioinformatics Consultant at Berkeley Lights, Inc. and Novus Genomics in 2015. Kelvin has held research and teaching positions at UCLA Health, the Institute for Quantitative & Computational Biosciences at UCLA, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Kelvin started their career as a Postdoc at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010 and completed their PHD at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research from 2008 to 2010.

Kelvin Zhang obtained their PhD in Bioinformatics from The University of British Columbia, where they studied from 2004 to 2011. Prior to that, they pursued their Master's degree in Computer Science at the University of Windsor, from 2002 to 2004.
