Paul Van Benschoten

VP, Principal, Structural Engineering at Coffman Engineers

Paul is vice president and structural engineering principal in theLos Angeles Encino office responsible for building and maintaining client relationships, expanding into new markets, mentoring engineering staff, and promoting Coffman’s vision and values throughout the So Cal region. Before that, Paul was the LA office’s general manager for a decade and was promoted to his current role in 2019 as part of a strategic plan to expand the markets in Southern California.

Paul’s experience started in general contracting and after 18 years in that role, he pursued a structural engineering degree. Since then, he has practiced structural engineering design through the lens of a builder for more than 24 years. This unique set of practical construction and analytical structural engineering skills has provided significant savings to client’s construction projects.

Paul has worked on many landmark projects throughout his career including the Disney Concert Hall, Eiffel Tower II in Las Vegas, Getty Villa Office and Laboratory Building, MGM Grand Convention Center, The Mansion at MGM Grand, and UCSD Eleanor Roosevelt Campus. Paul’s specialty skills include seismic retrofit and nonlinear analysis of viscous damping systems.
