Porter James

Porter James has worked in a variety of roles in the technology industry. From 2009 to 2013, Porter was a SQL Developer at PracticeMax. In 2013, Porter held the role of Treasurer at Oberlin Student Cooperative Association. From 2015 to 2017, Porter was a Software Engineer at LogMeIn, where they developed data transformation/loading processes, collaborated with data scientists to automate machine learning models, and used Python and Spark to extract & transform JSON log files. From 2017 to 2020, Porter was a Senior Software Engineer and Big Data Engineer at FINRA, where they worked with the Market Regulation Patterns team to develop and maintain multi-terabyte data pipelines in Apache Spark on Amazon EMR, converted a complex legacy Spark application to use Spark SQL, and identified and resolved data issues. Currently, Porter is a Senior Data Engineer at CollegeVine.

Porter James received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music from Oberlin College between 2010 and 2014. In 2015, they obtained a MCPS: Microsoft Certified Professional from Microsoft. In 2017, they obtained a Functional Program Design in Scala certification from Coursera and a Machine Learning by Stanford University certification from Coursera.
