Gary L. Sandling

Gary Sandling serves as the Vice President for Historic Area Operations at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where responsibilities include leading teams to bring the Historic Area to life, aligning with the foundation's educational mission. Prior to this role, Gary held various positions at the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, culminating as Vice President of Strategy & Chief Content Officer, focusing on strategic planning for the 250th anniversary of the United States and overseeing content for programming. Gary's career also includes significant experience as Vice President of Visitor Programs and Services, Director of Interpretation & Training, and earlier roles at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as Site Supervisor and Supervisor. Gary's educational background includes a M.Phil. in History from Yale University and a B.A. in History and Classical Studies from Vanderbilt University.
