Serra Kim

Head of Variant Science at Color

Serra Kim is currently the Head of Variant Science at Color. Prior to that, they were a Senior Content Scientist at Qiagen Silicon Valley (formerly Ingenuity Systems) from January 2010 to December 2014, where they were responsible for clinical data curation and genetic variant interpretation for hereditary cancers, cardiovascular disorders, neurological disorders and carrier screening. Serra also developed curation protocol and provided scientific guidance for a large group of curation scientists. During their time there, they closely with clinical geneticists, software developers and quality assurance engineers during clinical product development.

Before that, Serra Kim was the Scientific Manager, Corporate Partnering and Portfolio Development at the Institute for OneWorld Health from January 2007 to December 2009, where they were responsible for preclinical R&D, scientific project management and business development activities to support nonprofit drug development targeting neglected diseases prevalent in the developing countries.

Serra Kim has a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Serra is currently a postdoctoral fellow in microbiology and immunology at Stanford University. Serra received their B.S. in Chemistry from Seoul National University.

Serra Kim reports to Alicia Zhou, Chief Science Officer. Some of their coworkers include Jeroen Van den Akker - Head of Bioinformatics.
