Job purpose:

As Outreach Support Staff at Heartland Community Health Center, you will play a vital role in welcoming all who need care by assisting with dental equipment management and supporting school outreach programs. This non-exempt position involves travel to various schools within our service area to promote oral health education and provide essential support in dental equipment organization and administration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely unload and load dental equipment, weighing up to 60 lbs, for mobile dental clinics at various schools.
  • Set up and organize dental equipment at each school location to ensure a clean and sterile environment.
  • Conduct interactive activities and sessions on proper brushing techniques and healthy eating habits to promote oral health among students.
  • Collaborate with dental providers and school staff to facilitate mobile dental clinics at designated school locations.
  • Assist in scheduling patients and updating their status in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system as directed.
  • Utilize dictation provided by Registered Dental Hygienists (RDH) to accurately document patient assessments and treatment plans in the EMR.
  • Complete dental report cards based on the RDH's dictated notes.
  • Add new patients to the EMR system and update their demographics when necessary.
  • Assist with obtaining verbal consents from patients and updating their health history records in the EMR.
  • Collaborate with school staff and parents to coordinate patient care and follow-up.
  • Attend Back-To-School events and other events as assigned per supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Previous experience in dental equipment management is preferred.

  • Basic computer skills for EMR charting and administrative tasks.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with children.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating reliability and punctuality.

  • Valid driver's license for travel to various schools within our service area.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move dental equipment weighing up to 60 lbs.

  • Standing and walking for extended periods during school outreach programs.

  • As an employee of Heartland Community Health Center, you will likely come into contact with information and data that is protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, located at 45 CFR parts 160, 162, and 164, Subpart C, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act of 2009, and the Final Omnibus Rule, each as amended from time to time (collectively “HIPAA Rules”).  As such, it is a job requirement that you use all appropriate safeguards to protect health information, prevent use or disclosure of protected health information, and to report to any member of management, Human Resources, or the Heartland Compliance Officer any use or disclosure of protected health information of which you may become aware of (or suspect), including but not limited to, any breaches of unsecured protected health information. Training on the HIPAA Rules will be provided to you as part of your employment.

  • Hours M – F from 6:00 am – 5 pm as needed (average of 40 hours per week)
  • Some evenings and weekends will be required for outreach events as needed. Advance notice will be provided.
  • Hours are approximate and may be altered by supervisor(s) as needed
