Joe Petty has a diverse work experience ranging from education to sales and music. Joe is currently serving as the Director of Special Education, Instruction & Program Compliance at Community Roots Academy. Prior to this, they worked as an Adjunct Professor at Loyola Marymount University and held various roles at Teach For America, including Director of New Teacher Matriculation and Academic Dean of Special Education. Joe also worked as a Teacher and Education Specialist at Garden Grove Unified School District and Lynwood Unified School District. Joe started their career as a Corps Member at Teach For America. In addition to their education experience, Joe worked as a Travel Agent at the Automobile Club of Southern California and as a Sales Manager at Macy's. Joe also served as a Bass Player for The Devious Means.

Joe Petty has a strong education background with experience in various fields. Joe started their education journey in 2005 by obtaining a Vocational Certificate in Musical Performance/Bass from the Los Angeles College of Music. In 2010, they furthered their studies and earned an Associate's Degree in Social Sciences from Coastline College. Following this, Joe pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Arizona State University, completing it in 2013. Continuing their education, they obtained a Master's Degree in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University in 2017. That same year, Joe also obtained an Education Specialist Instruction Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Currently, Joe is pursuing a Ph.D. in Education at the University of San Diego, expected to be completed in 2024.
