Baby Raman

Principal Software Engineer at Comtech Telecommunications

Baby Raman has a diverse work experience spanning over several different industries. They started their career as a Scientific Officer at NPCIL/BARC, specializing in system analysis and design of nuclear power reactor primary heat transport systems. From there, Baby Raman moved on to Aker Kvaerner Powergas, where they served as Deputy Chief Engineer, leading design teams for chemical and petrochemical projects.

After gaining experience in mechanical design, Baby Raman transitioned to the field of software development. They worked at OSS Corp as a Software Developer, focusing on embedded C++ code development for SONET products. They also developed T1/E1 combined Framer/Transceiver devices.

Next, Baby Raman joined Alcatel-Lucent as a Software Developer, gaining exposure to IP switching, ATM/Frame Relay, and WAN switches. They enhanced the Automatic Protection Switching redundancy scheme and worked with Lucent Switches CBX-500, GX-550, and B-STDX 9000.

Following their time at Alcatel-Lucent, Baby Raman worked at Corvis Corporation as a Senior Software Developer. They were involved in telecom network protocol stack development for WAN switches, including designing and developing OSPF, OSPF-TE, LMP, and MPLS protocol software.

Baby Raman then joined Verizon as a Lead Developer, specializing in UNIX-based client-server applications and working on the LiveWire product. They developed Tuxedo Services for distributed databases and played a key role in evolving a process for bulk copying large amounts of data at high transfer rates.

Moving on to UPS, Baby Raman served as a Lead Technical Specialist Consultant. They were responsible for analyzing, designing, and developing new UPS business initiatives for Rating and Validation Systems. They also pioneered efforts to reduce defects through technical design reviews and peer code reviews.

At Verizon Data Services, Baby Raman worked as a Managing Consultant, designing and developing C++ system applications for high-performance client servers with large databases. They also optimized PL/SQL, stored procedures, and database functions.

Before their current position at Comtech Telecommunications Corp., Baby Raman worked at TeleCommunication Systems as a Principal Consultant, specializing in secondary authentication system architecture. They achieved an over-ambitious performance target for the Secondary Authentications Server on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) layer.

Currently, Baby Raman holds the title of Principal Software Engineer at Comtech Telecommunications Corp., where they are involved in architecture and development of highly available, fault-tolerant, and high-performance servers for use in the telecom core network. They have expertise in cloud-based solutions, virtual environments, and NoSQL databases.

Baby Raman completed their Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calicut from 1982 to 1986. Prior to that, they pursued Intermediate studies in Mathematics and Physics at Christ College, Irinjalakuda, Kerala from 1979 to 1981. It is also mentioned that they obtained a B Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Govt Engineering College, Trichur, Kerala, although no specific dates are provided for this.
