Concurrents, Inc.
Concurrents uses a technology called GPEG to stream game granular sub-assets (not video streaming) to a game engine running on a local machine to get a player into a game, anywhere within the game in seconds, without them having encountered the game before. GPEG monitors the players movements and camera view and predictively fetches the sub-assets ahead of the player needing to see them as they move about the game environment. This works for any genre of game and for either single player or multiplayer. GPEG is constructed as an API and although we’re currently on Unreal Engine 4 (5 in process), integration with other game engines is supported. We are now developing a “second screen” solution that will allow AAA gameplay on lower end devices. GPEG utilizes lower bandwidth, with zero latency, and delivers higher quality than video-based cloud gaming at a fraction of the cost. Concurrents has also developed a universal recording system that enables players to record action and re-record camera positions and/or insert objects or change shaders to create a new form of UGC (the Slice) that is shareable as interactive content. This works for live streaming as well. These instantly playable Slices comprise a new type of interactive social media around games that gives gamers new ways to experience and share gaming moments and gives game publishers new ways to promote and monetize their content. Additional, unique opportunities include: Playable Trailers, UGC e.g. ultra-slow-motion and bullet-time, cinematic interactive and video highlights of high framerate gameplay, Interactive eSports tournament Spectating, Virtual concerts/events, Linear/animated content, Self-distribution.
