Senior Data Scientist - Energy (Oil & Gas)

About this position:
Context Labs is seeking a Data Scientist to support the deployment of Context Labs’ Decarbonization as a Service™ platform, built on our Immutably™ Data Fabric technology. The candidate will perform research and analysis required by customer projects to deploy data-driven business products related to greenhouse gas mitigation within the energy industry. Responsibilities include understanding, integration, testing and analysis of data from a wide variety of data sources, developing and documenting methodology for scalable emissions analytics, building and testing predictive models for the anomaly detection and other use cases. This is a diverse role requiring skills from software development to applied mathematics and statistics. This position reports to the Chief Data and Analytics Officer.

In this role you will:

  • Perform exploratory and diagnostic data analysis to derive business insights.
  • Be responsible for data mining using state-of-the-art methods.
  • Develop predictive models using classification and regression analysis techniques.
  • Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Document requirements and resolve conflicts or ambiguities.
  • Documenting the types and structure of the business data (logical modeling) and lineage.
  • Reporting on the results of the analysis in succinct form.
  • Regularly work with colleagues in our Cambridge, MA and Amsterdam, NL offices.
  • Anything else as may reasonably be required by the company.

Experience:

  • Good understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms.
  • Solid understanding of research design principles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python. Experience with JavaScript is a plus.
  • Broad experience with elements of Python’s data science and machine learning ecosystem including NumPy, Pandas, Jupyter, SciPy, Scikit-Learn, Statsmodels, Altair, etc.
  • Strong communications skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and frameworks such as Vega/Vega-Lite, D3.js, Plotly, Gephi, Tableau, etc.
  • Proficiency in using SQL for data transformation and aggregation.
  • Familiarity with conceptual and logical data modeling principles.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience performing data analysis in oil & gas or climate science applications would be viewed favorably but not required.
  • 4+ years of experience in a relevant data science role
  • Master’s degree in computer science, data analytics, applied mathematics, or related field.
  • Degree in environmental science or climate science with strong experience in data analysis
