This role requires the Embedded Consultant to be deployed on site in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the duration of their deployment.

The successful candidate will lead the departmental strategy for Asset Protection, that will include security business partnerships, application of the force continuum and ensuring respect for human rights, in alignment to the Client’s expectations and business needs. In doing so, the Embedded Consultant will be expected to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational control and leadership to the Asset Protection department.

Task and Responsibilities

  • Leads the Asset Protection operation for success, identifying and ensuring that the required skills, equipment, systems, materials, and infrastructure are defined, planned, available and sustained.
  • Develops and implements a site-specific security strategy to address ongoing/long-term site security issues. Develops the site-specific security management plan with supporting security operating procedures for the security activities undertaken on site.
  • Defines effective first response ‘intervention’ teams that are suitably equipped and trained to be effective in their role.
  • Establishes security investigation and loss reporting standards; trains and develops asset protection personnel in contemporary investigation procedures.
  • Establishes and manages of strong formal/informal networks of information sources, contacts and liaises with private and governmental agencies to support early detection and appropriate reporting of threats to the Client’s interests and assets, ensuring emerging risks are established and managed.
  • Reviews incident reports submitted by Asset Protection staff to ensure they meet with corporate standards and to identify non-conformance and appropriate risk management measures.
  • Conducts detailed reviews of all security investigations into but not limited to loss/theft; workplace violence; intruders (including illegal miners).
  • Prepares and/or approves comprehensive, timely, and detailed case reports on all inquiries, and interviews to enable company personnel to undertake take corrective action or policy change.
  • Accountable for access control and surveillance, ensuring effective deployment of controls and countermeasures based upon risk assessment and appropriate technology.
  • Maintains regular communications with senior management and with other departments to foster cooperative efforts to prevent/minimize loss and/or security hazards/violations, which may include regular discussions, presentations, training and reports as necessary.
  • Undertakes security and vulnerability audits; develops appropriate recommendations and solutions for identified issues in conjunction with the area owners.
  • Identify, map and develop a plan to mitigate ore theft and criminal syndicates active within or targeting the operation and engage external parties as required.
  • Drive behaviors, accountabilities, standards and frameworks to enable and maintain a safety and cost conscious, business focused, high performance culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Facilitate cross departmental co-operation and collaboration to maximise business value; ensuring site and corporate strategic initiatives are translated into departmental business goals
  • Be safety conscious with operational discipline and seek to grow value and drive national employee advancement within Asset Protection to successfully and safely deliver department commitments and goals
