Aquaculture Operations Manager at Coral Vita

Simon Dixon has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of marine biology and aquaculture. Simon currently works as an Aquaculture Operations Manager at Coral Vita since 2023. Prior to this, they held a position as a Marine Discovery Centre Manager and Coral Biologist at Reefscapers from 2018 to 2023. In this role, they managed a team, established a coral propagation program, and worked on research ideas for coral propagation.

Before that, Simon worked as a Marine Biologist at Ocean Frontiers Ltd. from 2017 to 2018, where they maintained and expanded a coral nursery. Simon also worked as a 2IC Aquarium Department/Lead Aquarist at Pet City - Mt Gravatt from 2015 to 2016, where they managed freshwater and marine systems and led a team of aquarists.

From 2014 to 2015, Simon worked as a Lead Aquarist at Brisbane Aquarium Service, where they performed aquarium maintenance and set up for various environments. Simon also worked as a Marine Research Officer/PADI OWSI at Global Vision International from 2013 to 2013, where they conducted underwater surveys and processed collected data.

Earlier in their career, Simon worked as part of a dive team at Blue Planet Aquarium in 2012 and served as a PADI OWSI, Advanced Free Dive Instructor, and Marine Biologist at Divetech from 2008 to 2011. In this role, they designed research projects, managed an artificial reef project, and conducted Lionfish education and hunts.

From 1999 to 2002, they attended The University of Hull, where they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Coastal Marine Biology.

In 2011, they enrolled in The Manchester Metropolitan University and completed a Master's Degree in Conservation Biology with Zoo Studies in 2012.

Additionally, Simon Dixon obtained several certifications in different areas. In 2005, they became an Open Water Scuba Instructor through the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (P.A.D.I). In 2008, they received certifications as an Advanced Freedive Instructor from the International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers (I.A.N.T.D), as well as an Emergency First Response Instructor from Emergency First Response.
