Humberto Carvajal-Ortiz

Humberto Carvajal-Ortiz has extensive work experience in the field of geochemistry and petroleum systems analysis. Humberto began their career as a Geologist-Organic Petrologist & Geochemist at Universidad Industrial de Santander in 2003 and then moved on to work as a Geologist-(outsourcing ECOPETROL-ICP) at Ecopetrol in 2005. In the same year, they also worked as a Research Geologist-petroleum geochemist at Iowa State University. Humberto then joined Smithsonian Institution as an Organic Geochemist in 2007 before transitioning to Indiana University Bloomington in 2008, where they held the position of Research Geologist-Organic Geochemist. At Indiana University Bloomington, they also served as an Associate Instructor in Stratigraphy/ Historical Geology/Paleoclimatology. In 2012, they joined Core Laboratories as a Senior Staff Geochemist, specializing in Geochemistry subjects. Humberto later became the Chief Geochemist & Petroleum Systems analyst-Subject Matter Expert-SME at the same company.

Humberto Carvajal-Ortiz has a post-graduate certification in Data Science and Business Analytics from Texas McCombs School of Business, obtained in 2024. Humberto holds a Ph.D. in Geology and Biogeochemistry from Indiana University Bloomington, completed from 2008 to 2012. Humberto also has a Master of Science degree in Geology from Iowa State University, earned between 2005 and 2007. Their undergraduate education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Universidad Industrial de Santander, completed from 1998 to 2004. Humberto Carvajal-Ortiz has additional accreditations in Vitrinite Reflectance in Dispersed Organic Matter (DOMVR) from the International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology (ICCP) in various years, including 2014-2016, 2016-2018, and most recently in 2021-2023. Humberto also holds accreditations in Maceral Analysis from ICCP from 2018-2020 and 2023-2025.
