Dean Hommer has extensive experience in the medical field, holding various leadership and clinical roles throughout their career. Dean currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Corpus Christi Medical Center. Prior to this, they were an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Dean also holds the designation of FACHE from the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dean's career in the US Army spans over two decades, starting in 1999 as a Physician. Dean held roles at different medical centers, including William Beaumont Army Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center. At William Beaumont Army Medical Center, they served as the Chief of Staff/Deputy Commanding Officer and later as the Chief Medical Officer. Dean'sresponsibilities included overseeing hospital operations, managing a large budget, and improving partnerships with third-party insurers and local leaders. At Brooke Army Medical Center, Dean served as the Department Chair and Chief of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service, responsible for providing quality care to a large population. Dean also held a consultancy role as a Senior Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician for the Army Surgeon General, leading the training and talent management of other physicians.

Dean Hommer began their education in 1984 at the United States Military Academy at West Point where they pursued a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies, completing their degree in 1988. In 1995, they furthered their education by attending the Uniformed Services University, earning a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, which they completed in 1999. Dean then pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School from 2013 to 2015. Lastly, in 2017, Dean enrolled in the University of Michigan and obtained a Masters degree in Health Services Administration in 2019.

In addition to their formal education, Dean Hommer has also obtained various certifications, including Certified Facilitator and Developing an Outward Mindset from The Arbinger Institute in 2019 and 2018 respectively. Dean also received certifications in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement from the IHI in 2017.
