Matt Squeri

Matt Squeri currently serves as a Senior Advisor in the Office of China Coordination at the U.S. Department of State, a position held since October 2023. Prior to this, Squeri was a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations since June 2019 and served as Staff Director for the Congressional-Executive Commission on China from March 2021 to October 2023. Squeri's experience includes working as a Foreign Policy Advisor for U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, managing significant legislative initiatives related to human rights and international wildlife trafficking, and previously holding various roles in defense policy and relations, including as Country Director for Korea at the U.S. Department of Defense. Squeri has a Master's degree in Strategic Studies and International Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Stanford University.
