Chief Community Officer at CPI Security Systems

Kerr Putney is the Chief Community Officer for CPI Security. He is responsible for identifying and driving impactful community engagement, employee volunteerism, and strategic investments in the communities we serve.

With nearly 30 years of service with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Kerr brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. He is a trusted leader who excels at connecting and motivating others, and he spearheads CPI’s diversity and inclusion efforts and leadership development.

In this role, Kerr also leads CPI’s outreach and engagement efforts – prioritizing initiatives that improve lives and promote access, opportunity, and equality for at-risk and underserved children and communities.

As Chief of Police, Kerr oversaw a 2,400-member department, including 1,700 sworn officers. He spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives that advance equality in education and employment opportunities for disadvantaged youth, including Youth Diversion Programs and Envision Academy. He was applauded and widely respected for his exceptional leadership, pragmatism, and integrity during his tenure.

Kerr joined the CMPD in 1992 as a patrol officer. He held various patrol, training, and specialized assignments at several ranks before being promoted to Deputy Chief of Police in 2007. In 2015, he was sworn in as Chief of Police and served in that role until he retired in 2020.
