Karen Mutema

Karen Mutema is an Associate at Crossboundary. Karen was previously an Investment Analyst at Actis from August 2014 to February 2019, and a Corporate Finance Intern at AIB Capital Limited from May 2014 to June 2014.

At Actis, Karen was responsible for debt and equity transactions primarily in financial institutions (commercial banks, microfinance institutions, fintech lenders and alternative lenders such as those that provide invoice factoring & receivables financing) across Anglophone Africa.

At Bamboo Capital Partners, Karen was responsible for Origination, structuring, due diligence, financial modelling & valuation, preparation & presentation of screening memos & IC papers, portfolio monitoring & reporting (including impact & ESG reporting) and exit across BCP's: Financial Inclusion Fund I, Financial Inclusion Fund II, The Agri-Business Capital (ABC) Fund, & The Bamboo-UNCDF Impact for the Least Developed (BUILD) Fund. Karen also represented BCP as a Board Observer on the Board of Kopo Kopo (an East African merchant payments and small & medium-sized enterprises financing fintech platform).

Karen Mutema's educational career consists of a launchpad program in entrepreneurship and business model innovation from the United States International University - Africa, a diploma in professional interior design from the National Design Academy, a master of science in financial mathematics from the University of Leeds, and a bachelor of science in accounting and finance from the United States International University - Africa. Karen also has a certification from the CFA Institute in CFA Level I.
