Simone Gelmini

Simone Gelmini is a seasoned applied scientist with extensive experience in machine learning, control systems, and engineering analysis, currently serving as Staff Applied Scientist TLM at Cruise since July 2021, leading the Impact Evaluation team. Previously, Simone held various roles at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including Postdoctoral Researcher focused on solar-powered desalination solutions and Visiting PhD Student during which algorithms for efficient irrigation were developed. Academic foundations include a PhD in Information Technology, a Master's in Automation & Control Engineering, and a Bachelor's in the same field, all from Politecnico di Milano, complemented by research contributions in accident detection and vehicle control systems across several prestigious institutions. Proficiencies include MATLAB, Simulink, Python, and significant collaboration with industrial partners such as Ferrari and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
