About the Role:
As a Senior Database Administrator at CuraPatient, you will play a pivotal role in our growing Engineering Team. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will be at the forefront of managing our database infrastructure and overseeing the design, implementation and maintenance of our database systems to ensure high performance, maximum availability and secure access to our critical health data. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management, a deep understanding of Java and SpringBoot logic & configuration. Working closely with our Engineering and DevOps teams, you'll play a vital role in maintaining our database systems' reliability, performance, and security. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering our digital health solutions seamlessly, including your experience in precisely moving code from development, to production.
Success in this Role Looks Like:
Architecting, designing, implementing and managing sophisticated database structures to support complex healthcare applications with strict privacy requirements.
Working with Java and SpringBoot configurations to support application development and deployment.
Database Performance Enhancement: Proactively monitoring, troubleshooting and fine-tuning SQL queries to maximize performance, swiftly identifying and resolving bottlenecks to ensure the continued efficiency of our database operations.
Production Database Excellence: Upholding the highest performance and security standards for our production databases, assuring data integrity and uninterrupted availability, implementing measures to prevent data loss and unauthorized access.
Index Management: Creating, reviewing, and optimizing indexes to amplify query efficiency and minimize response times, contributing to a responsive user experience.
API Synergy: Collaborating seamlessly with the engineering department to optimize queries, stored procedures and database design for performance and efficiency; providing unwavering database support for our API service and facilitating smooth data interactions.
Code Deployment Expertise: Efficiently oversee the transition of code from development to production databases, ensuring precision and minimal downtime and enhancing overall agility.
Database Fortification: Implementing and rigorously maintaining security measures and best practices, monitoring security systems (preventing unauthorized access), safeguarding sensitive healthcare data and upholding compliance with pertinent regulations.
Backup and Recovery Strategy: Leading the plan and execution of disaster recovery. Developing and sustaining robust backup and recovery protocols, guaranteeing the safeguarding of critical healthcare data.
Database Scalability: Strategically planning and executing database scaling maneuvers to accommodate the burgeoning data requirements as our company scales.
Documentation Mastery: Maintaining meticulous documentation of database configurations, optimizations, and procedural protocols, ensuring transparency and knowledge sharing within the team.
Technical Leadership: Mentoring junior staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring support of the broader technology infrastructure. Staying updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices, recommending innovative solutions and improvements.
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. (or equivalent work experience).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration, with a proven track record in managing complex database environments.
Proven track record as a Database Administrator specializing in development and performance optimization, with a strong background in database management and tuning.
Expertise with Java
Proficiency with SpringBoot
Expertise in SQL query optimization, index management, and fine-tuning database performance (PostgreSQL).
Strong experience with cloud-based database management and services in environments like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Proven experience with data backup, recovery, and disaster recovery practices.
Strong comprehension of database security protocols, principles, applications. Advanced knowledge of disaster recovery, and database backup procedures in a healthcare setting.
Prior experience with API integration and support.
Demonstration of compliance and data security practices, including encryption and access control, particularly in a healthcare context.
Familiarity with healthcare data regulations and compliance (e.g. HIPAA and/orFedRAMP) is a big plus.
Demonstrated proficiency in code deployment from development to production databases.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different teams.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and adaptability with the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.

Personal Time Off (PTO): PTO is accrued up to 5 days (40 hours) on an annual basis

Holidays: 9 paid holidays, plus 1 paid floating holiday of your choice (10 days total).

Salary Transparency: Starting base is $130,000 - $160,000. You know your worth and we want to hear you out. We’re open to a salary that best reflects your experience, skills, knowledge and talents that will also meet our qualifications and current company needs.
