Medical Director Infectious Diseases at CureVac

Doris Mesia Vela has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Doris currently holds the position of Medical Director Infectious Diseases at CureVac. Prior to this, they worked at GSK for a period of 10 years starting in 2011. At GSK, they held several roles including Clinical Research Development Leader for HIV and TB, Epidemiology lead and CRDL for Tuberculosis and HIV, Senior Medical Manager for GAVI, and Senior Manager for Medical Affairs Malaria. Doris was also responsible for malaria and flu vaccines in emerging markets and supported HPV and Hepatitis vaccines activities. Before joining GSK, they worked at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) where they served as the Pediatric Leader of the working group and was responsible for defining pediatric projects and providing technical support in areas such as neonatology and general pediatrics. Prior to that, they worked as the Deputy Director of the Medical Department at Médecins Sans Frontières Belgium, where they played a key role in defining medical priorities and policies, as well as representing the medical department in various discussions and committees. Overall, Doris Mesia Vela has a strong background in infectious diseases, clinical research, and medical management.

Doris Mesia Vela has a diverse education history. In 1989, they obtained their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the Universidad Nacional de San Marcos in Lima, Peru. Following this, they pursued a Medical Residency in Pediatrics at the University of Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which they completed in 1994. In 1995, they earned a Master's degree in Medicine from the University of Valencia in Spain. Later, in 2003, they obtained a Master's degree in Public Health, with a focus on Control of Diseases, from the Prince Leopold Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium. Lastly, in 2014, they attended the University of Antwerp for an International Course of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Qualitative Research Methods in the field of Public Health.
