Carrie Cokely

Dr. Carrie L. Cokely received a B.A. from Russell Sage College in 1997 with a major in sociology and a minor in Women's Studies. She received a Master's degree in sociology from Syracuse University in 1999 and a graduate Certificate of Advanced Study in Women's Studies and a Ph. D. in Sociology from Syracuse University in 2002.

Carrie's academic research interests include constructions of gender and family in the media, systems of inequality, best practices in teaching and learning, and student success and retention. She has published and presented research on gender stereotyping in Disney animated films, on police conduct in relation to the GLBT community, and on using technology to enhance classroom teaching and effectiveness. In 2005 she was awarded the Outstanding Service and Support of the Profession award by the North Carolina College Personnel Association, in 2008 she was named an AIR Fellow for the National Conference on First Year Assessment, and is a 2020 graduate of the Senior Leadership Academy sponsored by the Council for Independent Colleges and the American Academic Leadership Institute.

In her role as the Associate Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Carrie provides broad-based leadership, planning, and oversight to advance the academic mission of the College. This work includes developing systems and protocols that integrate the work of the Office of Advising & Academic Success, Academic Enrichment Center, Disability Services, the Writing Center and other academic support services into a coordinated academic success program. , supporting cross-area planning and curriculum development as it relates to the General Education and Honors program at the College, developing and disseminating academic information to students, faculty, and staff, and working with students, families, and faculty on academic concerns at the institution.
