Steve Purves has an extensive work experience in the software and technology industry. Steve began their career in 1997 as a Postgraduate Researcher at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 2000, they joined Geoteric as a Head of Software Engineering and Software Engineer. During their time at Geoteric, they led the development of High Definition Frequency Decomposition (HD FD) and Frequency Decomposition Workflow, as well as co-inventing a patent pending HD FD. In 2007, they were promoted to Director of Technology (CTO) and was responsible for expanding the engineering group and controlling a budget of £1. In 2016, they became a Senior Software Consultant at Expero, Inc. and worked on a wide variety of consultancy projects. In 2018, they were appointed R&D Director at Earth Science Analytics AS, where they worked on research and product direction with a focus on seismic data analysis and seismic well integration. In 2020, they co-founded Curvenote, a collaborative writing platform for scientists and engineers.
Steve Purves studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Newcastle University between 1993 and 1997, where they obtained a BEng(hons) degree. In 2021, they completed the Founder YC W21 program at Y Combinator, focusing on Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies.
