Paulo Cesar Costa

Vice President for Securing Automation and Supply Chain Security at CyManII | Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute

Paulo Cesar Costa has a diverse work experience in the field of cyber security and technology. Paulo Cesar is currently serving as the Interim Chair of the Department of Cyber Security Engineering at George Mason University since January 2023. Prior to this role, they held positions as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the same university from 2011 to 2022.

In addition to their work at George Mason University, Paulo also worked as the Director of the Center of Excellence in C4I & Cyber since April 2020, and as the Vice President for Securing Automation and Supply Chain Security at CyManII | Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute since November 2020.

From 2016 to 2020, Paulo served as the Chair of the Cyber Security Working Group at the Volgenau School of Engineering. Paulo Cesar also held the position of Research Director - International C2 Activities at the Center of Excellence in C4I from 2009 to 2020.

Before their academic career, Paulo served in the Brazilian Air Force as the Head of the Command and Control, Electronic Warfare and Operational System’s Section at the Operations Division. Paulo Cesar held this position from 1980 to 2008 and was responsible for overseeing doctrine, policies, and strategic planning for the Air Force’s C4I, GE, and Operations.

Paulo Cesar Costa has a strong educational background in the fields of Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence. Paulo Cesar obtained a PhD in Information Technology with a specialization in Command and Control from George Mason University, where they were enrolled from 2003 to 2005. Prior to that, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Systems Engineering and Operations Research in the same university from 1997 to 1999. During the same time period, they also obtained a Certificate in Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence. In 1994, they attained a Certificate in Electronic Warfare Specialist from Dundridge College. Paulo Cesar Costa started their educational journey by earning a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Engineering from Academia da Força Aérea between 1983 and 1986.
