Mike Smit

Mike Smit currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Management and Professor at Dalhousie University, where tenure has included roles such as Associate Dean Academic, Associate Dean Research (Acting), and Assistant Professor since July 2013. Additionally, Mike holds the position of Deputy Scientific Director at the Ocean Frontier Institute, which began in March 2022. With a longstanding commitment to education, Mike directed the SHAD Dalhousie program, engaging with high school students in science, engineering, and entrepreneurship from 2001 to January 2023. Prior academic experience includes serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at York University and a PhD student at the University of Alberta, complemented by earlier research at IBM and a Master’s program at Dalhousie. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Computing Science and multiple degrees in Computer Science from Dalhousie University and the University of Alberta.
