CTO at Damon Motors

Derek Dorresteyn is the CTO at Damon Motors. Derek was previously the Co-Founder and CTO of Alta Motors from January 2008 to October 2018. Derek has been involved in the management of engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and racing strategy.

Derek was the architect for the Redshift-model electric power train, which is the most compact and power dense drive package in the electric motorcycle industry. Additionally, they developed original technology in the areas of electric motor design, chassis construction and design, battery construction, and controller integration. Derek was deeply involved in the design, testing, and validation of every component in the Alta Motors electric drive portfolio.

The Redshift achieved excellent product market fit and was awarded the Vital MX Product of the Year Award in 2018; it was the first electric motorcyle to win a podium place (against ICE motorcycles) in AMA National Championship competition. It was sold in seventy dealerships across the country and Alta had a continuous backlog of orders.

Derek Dorresteyn studied Industrial and Product Design at San Francisco State University.

Derek Dorresteyn works with Phil Gow - VP of Power Systems & Bay Area General Manager, Dino Mariutti - Head of EU Operations, and Chris Efstathiou Jr - VP of Supply Chain. Their manager is Jay Giraud, Founder & CEO.
