Matt Broad

Matt Broad is the SVP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Darden Restaurants. Matt has over 25 years of experience in the legal field and has held various positions at different companies.

Broad started their career as an Associate General Counsel at Boise Cascade Corporation in 1984. Matt was responsible for the legal affairs of a $3.5 billion b2b distribution subsidiary and had expertise in corporate transactions, finance, mergers and acquisitions, employment and labor law, and litigation. Matt also served as counsel and corporate secretary for a publicly held subsidiary including board administration and advising an independent board of directors on relevant legal and governance issues.

In 2005, Broad became an Independent Director at Boise Cascade Company (privately held) where they served until 2013.

From January 2004 to December 2014, Broad was the Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer at OfficeMax Incorporated where they were responsible for worldwide legal affairs, corporate compliance, and public policy. Their specific expertise is in corporate governance, antitrust, and M&A.

Broad joined Darden Restaurants as the SVP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary in 2015.

Matt Broad received their Juris Doctor from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Prior to that, they received their BA in Business Economics from UC Santa Barbara.

Their manager is Rick Cardenas, President & CEO. They are on a team with Sarah King - SVP, CHRO, Todd Burrowes - President, LongHorn Steakhouse, and Ian Baines - President, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen.
