Denzel Mitchell has a diverse range of work experience. Denzel began their career as a Student Representative for the Northumberland County School Board from September 2017 to June 2018. In 2019, they served as a Deputy Field Organizer for Francis Edwards' Delegate campaign and also worked as a Deposit Operations Intern at Chesapeake Bank.

In 2020, Denzel interned at the University of Virginia's Center for Politics and the Office of the Northumberland County Commonwealth Attorney. Denzel also co-founded and co-hosted the Main Street Speaks Podcast during this time. In 2020 and 2021, Denzel worked as a Production Assistant Intern at the UVA Deliberative Media Lab.

After completing their studies at the Governor's School, Denzel went on to attend the University of Virginia from 2018 to 2022. At the University of Virginia, they focused on Political and Social Thought, as well as Economics.
