Robyn Caplan has extensive experience in the digital media industry. Robyn began their career in 2010 as an Editorial Intern at Gawker Media, where they researched and edited video content for all Gawker media sites and wrote and published articles for Gawker.tv. In the same year, they also worked as a Social Media Specialist for AnyClip and a Teaching Assistant for two separate undergraduate courses at New York University. In 2011, Caplan was the Co-Creator of AppAutopsy.com, a website completed under the direction of Professor Helen Nissenbaum, and the Digital Editor for MAKERS.com, a web site focusing on women's history. Robyn also served as the Research Manager for an Internet startup building software for independent filmmakers. From 2014 to 2015, Caplan was a Research Fellow at TheGovLab at NYU and a Researcher at the Data & Society Research Institute. In 2022, they will begin their role as a Visiting Fellow at Cornell Tech's Digital Life Initiative.
Robyn Caplan obtained their B.Sc. from the University of Toronto in 2008, majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. Robyn then went on to pursue their M.A. from New York University in Media Culture and Communication, Technology and Society, which they completed in 2012. Most recently, they have been pursuing their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD from Rutgers University in Communication and Media Studies.
