Sergi Alonso Badia

Sergi Alonso Badia has a diverse range of work experience in the technology industry. Sergi began their career with internships at UPC School, where they gained IT experience. Sergi then moved on to working as a Software Engineer at FICOSA, where they developed Python packages for hardware control. Sergi also had the opportunity to work as a Resident Engineer in Japan during their time at FICOSA.

Following their experience at FICOSA, Sergi joined Alpha as a Software Automation Engineer and later transitioned to the role of Data Engineer. In this position, they focused on developing and maintaining ETL pipelines on AWS using Terraform. Sergi also worked with Apache Kafka and Kubernetes to deploy a new data collector and developed Kafka Streams processes in Scala.

Most recently, Sergi joined Koa Health as a Data Engineer. In this role, they enabled the Research team and developers to collect and analyze events data. Sergi utilized Airflow and Spark on Kubernetes for data processing and implemented custom Apache Kafka on Kubernetes as the data backbone for the company. Sergi also had experience with DataOps, using tools like Terraform, Helm, and GitHub actions for different ETL and CI/CD processes.

Currently, Sergi is a Senior Software Engineer at DataStax. Sergi'smain focus is on developing internal diagnostic tools to support different DataStax Products teams, including DSE (Apache Cassandra). Sergi leverages technologies such as Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, and Docker to design and implement efficient, reliable, and scalable solutions. Sergi utilizes programming languages like Python and Bash, as well as tools like Helm, to streamline workflows and optimize performance.

Sergi Alonso Badia pursued their education with a focus on engineering and data science. Sergi obtained a Master of Engineering degree in Data Science from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, which they completed between 2019 and 2021. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 2014. Additionally, Sergi was also enrolled in a short-term program at Aarhus University in 2014, where they earned a second Bachelor of Engineering degree in Telecommunications Engineering. Beyond their formal education, Sergi holds a certification as an Advanced Open Water Diver from PADI.
