Jaap van Etten has a diverse work experience that spans over several industries and roles. Jaap is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Datenna, a leading provider of science, innovation, and industry data with a focus on China. Jaap'srole involves using AI-powered Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) to generate intel on the Chinese industry and innovation landscape, aiming to create transparency and help governments worldwide make well-informed decisions. Prior to Datenna, Jaap founded and served as CEO of Grobber Technologies, a data-driven consultancy focused on China industry and innovation intelligence. Jaap also worked as an Investor for DanceTelevision and as an Attaché for Science & Technology at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai. Jaap's previous experience also includes diplomatic postings at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in China, where they served as an Attaché for Science & Technology and an Assistant Counsellor for Science & Technology. Before that, they worked as a Technical Manager Helpdesk at Ilse Media BV, where they implemented a new helpdesk ticket web-application and worked as a software engineer for a search engine.

Jaap van Etten has a strong education background in technology and computer science. Jaap attended Fontys University of Applied Sciences from 1999 to 2003, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Following this, they pursued further studies at Eindhoven University of Technology from 2003 to 2006, completing a Master of Science degree in Technology Policy.
