Tab Cooney has a diverse work experience in the field of pediatric neuro-oncology. They started their career at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland as a Pediatric Resident. They then pursued fellowships in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/Stem Cell Transplantation at Stanford University, followed by a Pediatric Neuro-Oncology fellowship. After completing their fellowships, they worked as an Attending Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist at UCSF Benioff Children's Physicians. They later joined the University of California, San Francisco as an Assistant Professor, specializing in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology. Alongside their role at UCSF, they also held the position of Director of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Survivorship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. After that, they transitioned to Harvard Medical School as an Assistant Professor and Director of Study Development at the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium. Currently, they serve as the Medical Director at Day One Biopharmaceuticals.

Tab Cooney earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Duke University in 2006. After that, they attended the University of South Florida from 2006 to 2010 and obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. Finally, from 2014 to 2016, Tab Cooney pursued a Master's Degree in Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Stanford University.
