Akil Kamau

Associate Program Manager at DC College Access Program

Akil Kamau has extensive experience in the field of college counseling and education. Akil has worked in various roles and organizations, starting in 2007 as an independent consultant. In 2008, they founded the ForeThought College Readiness Program, where they provided college preparation services and consultation to high school students and their families. Akil also served as a College Readiness Trainer for The Leadership Program, delivering curriculum-based instruction and advisory to students.

In 2009, Akil became the Director of Education at the New York Urban League, expanding educational initiatives and programs in the New York City area. Most recently, Akil worked at the DC College Access Program as an Associate Program Manager, supporting college students and their families by providing ongoing counseling services and acting as a partnership liaison between the organization, student cohorts, and institution partners.

Akil Kamau attended Howard University from 1988 to 1991, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Telecommunications Management.
