Jon Samuel has extensive work experience in various companies and roles. Jon started their career as an Analyst at TecnEcon from July 1991 to September 1994. From September 1994 to April 2007, they worked at ERM as a Partner, leading the economics team and working on projects in the UK and other countries.
Starting in April 2007, Jon joined Anglo American, where they held multiple roles over the years. Jon served as Head of Social Performance, Group Head of Government and Social Affairs, Group Head of Social Performance and Engagement, and Senior Advisor in the Chief Executive's Office. Jon was also Chair of the Anglo American Foundation from June 2010 onwards.
In 2016, Jon became a Senior Associate at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership at the University of Cambridge. Jon later served as Director at the Development Partner Institute (DPI Mining) and Co-Chair at the IRMA Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance. Additionally, Jon was a Director at IWiM - International Women in Mining from November 2018 until June 2023.
Most recently, Jon joined De Beers Group in November 2023 as the Project Director and start-up Chief Executive for the Botswana Diamonds for Development Fund. Jon also serves as a Trustee at the Woodsmith Foundation starting from November 2020.
Jon Samuel has a BSc (Econ) degree in Economics and Geography, which they obtained from UCL between 1988 and 1991. Jon then pursued an MPhil in Land Economy from the University of Cambridge from 1992 to 1993. In 2008, they completed a post-graduate certificate in Cross-sector Partnerships from the University of Cambridge.
