Bas Mesters is an accomplished journalist and media professional with extensive experience in various editorial and organizational roles. Since February 2018, Mesters has served as the Editor-in-chief and moderator at De Tussenruimte, facilitating debates on democratic renewal and civic engagement. Mesters also contributes as a journalist and interviewer for de Volkskrant and as an author for Uitgeverij Balans. As a freelance reporter for De Groene Amsterdammer, Mesters writes about European unity. Prior roles include ombudsman at de Volkskrant, Director of the Expertise Centre for Journalism at the University of Amsterdam, and Director at the Academy for Journalism at Windesheim University, where Mesters innovated curriculum changes to promote constructive journalism.
