Pong Chang

Principal SIEM Engineer at Deepwatch

Pong Chang has a diverse and extensive work experience in the technology industry. Pong started their career at Goldman Sachs in 1997, where they held the role of Vice President/Technical Analyst Level 3. During their time at Goldman Sachs, Pong gained experience in desktop/virtualization implementation and support, application deployment/support, remote office management and support, and strategic workflow automation and process improvement.

In 2011, Pong joined Bridgewater Associates as a Server Patch Management specialist before moving to Morgan Stanley in 2013, where they worked as a Splunk Engineer. At Morgan Stanley, Pong took on various responsibilities, including data onboarding, infrastructure monitoring automation, creating Splunk agent health monitoring, and handling third-level escalations for Splunk-related issues.

Pong then joined EY in 2016 as a Senior SIEM Engineer, where they continued to work with Splunk and gained experience in security information and event management. After five years at EY, Pong joined Cyware in 2021 as a Solutions Architect, responsible for designing and implementing SOAR/CTI/incident management solutions for customers across various industries.

In 2022, Pong joined Koniag Government Services as a Senior Security Engineer and later took on the role of Senior Splunk Architect. Pong'sresponsibilities included enhancing threat detection quality, providing technical expertise and mentorship to team members, and improving the architecture of security systems.

Pong's most recent role is at Deepwatch, where they currently serve as the Principal SIEM Engineer. In this client-facing position, Pong provides technical Splunk SME services to multiple MDR clients, acts as a Tier 4 escalation point, and collaborates with the security detection team to enhance threat detection.

Overall, Pong Chang has gained extensive experience in Splunk, security engineering, architecture design, and customer solutions throughout their career.

Pong Chang has an Associate's degree in Computer Science from Suffolk County Community College. Pong also pursued Computer Science at SUNY@Stony Brook as a junior. Pong Chang obtained various certifications, including the GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA) from Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) in 2018, the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from (ISC)² in 2018, the LogRhythm Certified Deployment Engineer from LogRhythm in 2017, the Splunk Certified Architect from Splunk in 2017, and the Splunk Certified Admin from Splunk in 2016.
