James McCollough has a strong background in research and data analysis. James started their career as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2004 and worked their way up to become a Graduate Research Assistant. In 2010, they joined the Air Force Research Laboratory as an Associate Research Physicist before being promoted to Research Physicist in 2012. Most recently, they are working as the Lead Data Scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy since August 2020.
James McCollough has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Syracuse University, which they obtained from 2000 to 2004. James then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder from 2004 to 2010. More recently, from 2023 to 2025, they attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Computer Science. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications including the DAWIA Level III Acquisition Professional from Defense Acquisition University in 2015, and several specialization certificates from Coursera in topics like DevOps, Cloud, Agile Foundations, Energy Production, Distribution & Safety, and IBM Machine Learning.
