Olga Popova

Lead Geologist/ Physical Scientist at Department of Energy

Olga Popova has a diverse work experience in the fields of geology, engineering, and environmental resources. Olga began their career as a Well Site Geologist at Nabors Industries in 2000 and later worked as a Project Engineer/ Hydrogeologist at Delta Environmental Consulting. In 2005, they joined Cornerstone Geotechnical as a Project Manager. Olga then served as a Program Director at the Snoqualmie Tribe's Environmental and Natural Resources Department from 2008 to 2009. Olga continued their research work as a Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University's Engineering and Public Policy Department, focusing on Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). Olga's expertise led their to their current position as a Lead Geologist/Physical Scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration, where they conduct research and analysis on fossil energy resources, market, policy, and energy transition alternatives.

Olga Popova holds a PhD in Engineering and Public Policy, which they earned from Carnegie Mellon University between 2009 and 2014. Prior to that, they completed their MS in Information Management at the University of Washington in 2009. Olga also has a BS/MS degree in Geology & Geophysics from Novosibirsk State University. In addition to their academic qualifications, they are a Registered Geologist of Washington State, as certified by the Geologist Licensing Board Meeting of Washington State in 2003.
