Paul Basore

Chief Scientist For Solar Energy Technologies at Department of Energy

Paul Basore began their work experience as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories in 1986. Paul managed the establishment of the Photovoltaic Device Fabrication Laboratory and achieved a world record for multicrystalline silicon module efficiency.

In 1995, they joined Pacific Solar Pty Ltd as the Deputy Research Director and later became the Chief Technical Officer at CSG Solar AG in 2004. Paul Basore then served as the Managing Director at REC Technology US, Inc., where they established and operated a lab for silicon cell and module development.

Paul became the Laboratory Director at Hanwha Solar America in 2011, supervising the Advanced R&D Lab for silicon cell and module development.

In 2014, they founded PV Specialist Services LLC and worked as the owner, providing consulting and services to the photovoltaic community. Paul also held various roles at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, including R&D Planning and Evaluation Principal Engineer and Center Director for the Materials Applications and Performance Center.

Paul Basore joined the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in 2016 as the Chief Engineer for Solar Energy Technologies and later became the Chief Scientist for Solar Energy Technologies in 2021.

Paul Basore earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University in the years 1974 to 1978. Following that, they pursued a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1978 to 1982. Paul also obtained a Certificate in Strategic Decision and Risk Management from Stanford University, although the specific duration is not provided.
