James McNally

James McNally currently serves as a Foreign Service Officer in the role of Political Officer with the U.S. Department of State since September 2025. Prior to this position, James held various roles at Diller Scofidio + Renfro from August 2013 to September 2025, including Director of Research and Independent Projects & Research Manager. Earlier experience includes an internship in Environmental Review at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development from January 2009 to January 2010. James McNally earned a Master of Urban Planning (M.U.P.) from Harvard University Graduate School of Design between 2011 and 2013, after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Chicago from 2004 to 2008.
