Director Of Research, Biomarker Discovery at DermTech

Jelena Ostojić, PhD, has extensive work experience in various research and scientific roles. Jelena is currently working at DermTech as the Director of Research, Biomarker Discovery, where they lead the Biomarker Discovery group in identifying genomic and proteomic biomarkers for inflammatory disorders and skin neoplasms. Jelena is also responsible for managing academic collaborations and overseeing the DermTech Stratum® translational medicine partnership program. Prior to their current role, they served as a Principal Scientist in the Biomarker Discovery department at DermTech.

Before joining DermTech, Jelena worked at the Salk Institute as a Staff Scientist and a Postdoctoral Researcher. During their time there, they focused on studying the role of transcriptional factors in melanocytes and melanomas, particularly their involvement in pigmentation and skin cancer development.

Jelena has also worked as a Biotech Consultant at Advanced Degrees Consulting and Freelance, where they provided consulting services in the biotechnology industry. Jelena began their scientific career at I2BC Paris Saclay (formerly Center for Molecular Genetics) as a Researcher PhD Student, studying the biogenesis and interaction of mitochondrial OXPHOS complexes and modeling driver mutations of rare mitochondrial disorders. Specifically, their research focused on the BCS1 gene and its association with complex III defects leading to mitochondrial diseases.

Jelena Ostojić, PhD obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Molecular and Cellular technologies from Università degli Studi di Trieste in 2008. Jelena then pursued their Master's Degree in Functional Genomics from the same university, completing it in 2010. In 2009, they also obtained a Master's Degree in Genetics from Université Paris Cité. Continuing their education, Jelena obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from Université d'Évry in 2013. In 2015, they received a Certificate in Business Administration from Rady School of Management.
