Philip Blumberg

Philip Blumberg, M.H.A., joined Des Moines University in 2012 and is the executive director of the multispecialty DMU Clinic. He also has operational and strategic oversight of the University’s Wellness Center. Over the years, he has been responsible for multiple renovation and new construction projects, state certificate of need applications, multi-million-dollar equipment purchases, service-line development and enhancements, EHR builds and conversions, contract negotiations, and physician recruitment.

Prior to joining DMU, Mr. Blumberg worked at MercyOne – Des Moines as the director of radiation oncology and the CyberKnife Center, the largest radiation oncology practice in Iowa. He led a multidisciplinary staff of 45 physicists, dosimterists, therapists and nurses. Earlier, he served as an administrative fellow and later joined a turnaround operation at a 340-bed tertiary hospital at Northwell Health in metropolitan New York. There he developed service lines across the organization including a neurosciences institute, orthopedics institute and pain management and wound care clinics.

Active in the community, Mr. Blumberg was named among the Des Moines Business Record’s “Forty under 40” in 2014, and he now serves as the board president for Prevent Blindness Iowa.

Mr. Blumberg earned his master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Iowa, where he completed a bachelor of arts degree with a double major in gerontology and religion as well as a certificate in aging studies.
