Ben Somers

Ben Somers is the current Engineering Manager at Determined AI. Prior to their current position, they held the title of Engineering Manager, Dev Lab at Bain & Company from December 2018 to November 2020. There, they were responsible for designing and developing full-scale deployment systems, leading development on key infrastructure and security projects, recruiting and mentoring Practices team members, owning the roadmap and leading architectural decision-making. Ben also wrote and delivered training initiatives for product teams, owned developer tools and vendor management, and served as a technical expert and adviser for clients and consultants.

Before Bain & Company, Somers was a Software Engineer at Stripe from March 2017 to October 2018. There, they wrote Ruby, Go, and Scala for major new partner integrations and systems rearchitecture for international growth. Ben also helped maintain, operate, and refactor critical payments infrastructure handling all volume.

Somers began their career as a Senior Software Engineer at HealthSherpa in June 2013, where they worked until March 2017.

Ben Somers completed a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Yale University.

They are on a team with Eric Liu - Software Engineer, Sean Mackrory - Senior Software Engineer, and Shiyuan Zhu - Senior Software Engineer. Ben Somers reports to Neil Conway, CTO.
