Senior Drilling Engineer at Diamondback Energy

Brannon Smith has a diverse work experience in the energy industry. Brannon began their career as an intern at RPM Services, where they worked on a project to refurbish a catalyst dryer. Brannon'sresponsibilities included creating work schedules and designing safety systems.

After that, Smith worked as an engineering intern at BASF, where they managed piping and equipment procurement for a MethylAmines plant. Brannon also coordinated the registration of service companies into a safety auditing program.

Smith then joined CrownQuest Operating, LLC as a Drilling Engineer II. In this role, they supervised drilling rigs, coordinated oilfield construction, and wrote drilling procedures and expenditure plans. Brannon also oversaw casing, cement jobs, logging operations, and wellbore problem remediation.

Next, Smith moved to Energen, where they initially served as a Drilling Engineer before transitioning to the position of Staff Drilling Engineer. Brannon managed daily operations for multiple rigs in the Midland Basin and Delaware Basin, focusing on horizontal shale plays, deep SWD, and Wolfberry Verticals. Brannon designed drilling programs, including bit selections, BHA designs, mud programs, and directional well planning.

Most recently, Smith joined Diamondback Energy, where they started as a Staff Drilling Engineer and later became a Senior Drilling Engineer. Brannon was responsible for engineering and operational support for rigs drilling 10,000-13,000 feet Wolfcamp/Spraberry/Cline horizontals in the Midland Basin. Brannon also oversaw SWD drilling operations in the Midland Basin, including both shallow and deep injection wells. Smith developed a program to grade and track directional drilling successes and incidents, as well as key performance indicators for directional services.
