About the Job:

The Product Development Engineer is a core member of our Product Development team. This position plays a vital role in solving customer problems by researching technical options and designing new products and product improvements that push the envelope of what’s possible for the best product performance and user experience.

Reports To:

Director of Product Development

Principal Duties:

  • Brainstorm potential solutions for customer problems based on insights
  • Collaborate with team members on suggested technical approaches for projects
  • Responsible for form, fit, and function of design and cost breakdowns
  • Design and draft products and parts using 2D, 3D CAD software
  • Design, build, and test prototypes
  • Design, develop and utilize test methods to qualify products for customer use
  • Create technical reports for cross-functional review
  • Evaluate testing results and make recommendations concerning improvements
  • Provide manufacturing and production support for new products and continuous improvement of existing products
  • Manage technical documentation of key project decisions and design changes
  • Integrate with marketing teams to support tasks such as:
    • Product performance testing, marketing claims, packaging, and literature

Required Skills, Knowledge, Education, and Training:

  • B.S. or higher in Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Sheet metal fabricating experience required, plastics/coatings/hardware experience a plus
  • Solid experience with 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor a plus)
  • 1-3 years experience on a consumer product engineering team, with a focus on quality, reliability, and commercialization
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge and experience with supplier management
  • Effective organization and communication skills and superior attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Mathematical skills (calculations, analysis, spreadsheets)
  • FMEA, DFSS, and lean manufacturing experience a plus
