Ruslan Fomkin

Ruslan Fomkin has over 25 years of work experience in various roles related to database engineering, research, and development. Ruslan is currently employed at Ditto as a Senior Database Engineer, starting in November 2022. Previously, they worked at DataStax from May 2021 to October 2022 as a Senior Database Engineer. Prior to that, they worked at Timescale from June 2019 to April 2021 as a Core Database Engineer.

From 2011 to 2019, Ruslan held multiple roles at Starcounter, including Lead Research Engineer, Lead Database Research Engineer, and Database Research Engineer. Ruslan'sresponsibilities involved leading research funding projects, researching and developing a high-performance database management system, and focusing on SQL query processing.

Before joining Starcounter, Ruslan worked at Karolinska Institutet from 2008 to 2010 as a Researcher and Database Infrastructure Developer. During this time, they conducted research on protected and legal infrastructure for remote epidemiological analysis using database systems and federated databases.

In their earlier career, Ruslan worked at Uppsala University from 2001 to 2009, where they served as a PhD student, teacher assistant, and research assistant. Ruslan'swork involved applying database technologies to scientific applications and optimizing complex queries in a Grid environment. Ruslan also had internships at Motorola in 2000, where they developed a tool for static code analysis, and at De Beers in 1999, where they conducted investigations using geostatistics methods.

Ruslan's work experience demonstrates their expertise in database engineering, research, and development, spanning various industries and organizations.

Ruslan Fomkin holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Databases, which they obtained from Uppsala University. Ruslan completed their Ph.D. from 2003 to 2009. Prior to that, they earned a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Saint Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI" from 1999 to 2001. Additionally, in the years 1995 to 1999, Ruslan Fomkin obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics from the same university.
