Ilham A. Alam has been working as an educator for over 20 years. Ilham started their career as a teacher of English language at Willes Little Flower School in Bangladesh. Ilham then moved to Mastermind School, where they taught High School GCE / O level students. In 2010, they took a position as a teacher of English Language and Deputy Head of Secondary at DPS STS School in Dhaka. During their time at DPS STS School, they were also responsible for student learning, teacher and student management, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and school publications. In 2016, they joined Passaic County Community College as an adjunct faculty member in the English Language Studies department. There, they introduced the process of academic writing to low-intermediate level non-native speakers of English.

Ilham A. Alam has a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Curriculum and Learning: Bilingual / ESL from William Paterson University of New Jersey, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Linguistics Major from North South University, and a Master of Arts (MA) in English Literature from National University of Bangladesh.
