Marcelo Castañares has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Marcelo began their career as a Direct Marketing employee at NCR Corporation in 1990. The following year, they worked as a Trainee at IBM Argentina. From 1992 to 2000, Marcelo served as the Vitamins Controller at Productos Roche, and later as the Regional Controller for Latin America at Roche Vitamins Latin America from 2001 to 2003.

In 2003, Marcelo joined DSM and held various positions within the company. Marcelo initially served as the Finance Director for Latin America until 2008. During this time, they contributed to various projects, such as working capital improvement and restructuring. From 2008 to 2012, Marcelo held the role of Business Group Controller for the Human Nutrition & Health segment, where they played a crucial role in defining the long-term strategy for the entire business group.

Subsequently, Marcelo assumed the position of Vice President of Finance & Business Support from 2012 to 2014. Following this, they took on the responsibility of Business Director for Brazil, where they concentrated on developing the Brazilian market for licensing DSM technology for cellulosic ethanol. Additionally, they engaged in external relations, including conferences and governmental relations.

From 2015 to 2022, Marcelo served as the CFO for Latin America at DSM. In this role, they oversaw various finance disciplines, including FP&A, Controlling, Accounting, Treasury, Tax, and Risk Management. Marcelo led a regional team of over 150 finance colleagues and implemented a substantial restructuring program, resulting in a significant cost reduction.

In 2022, Marcelo joined dsm-firmenich as the Vice President of Finance Transformation.

Marcelo Castañares obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Systems Technology from Universidad de Morón (Oficial) in the years 1987 to 1992. Marcelo then pursued a Postgraduation in Negotiation at Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina 'Santa María de los Buenos Aires' in 1995. In 1996 to 1997, Marcelo earned a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from IAE Business School. Recently, in 2019, they completed a C-Level course at FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas.
