Matthew Robert Hayward is a Senior Scientist at dsm-firmenich, where the focus is on designing microbiome-targeted products to enhance human and animal health since September 2022. Prior to this role, Matthew served as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard from October 2017 to September 2022, investigating microbial risk factors for HIV acquisition in sub-Saharan Africa. Earlier, as a Marie Curie Fellow at EMBL (January 2014 - June 2017), research centered on the connection between the human microbiome and cancer using a multi-omic approach. Matthew also completed a postdoctoral fellowship focusing on computational microbiomics. The educational background includes a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London, where research involved sequencing and comparing Salmonella enterica genomes, as well as a Master of Science in Entomology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology with Microbiology, both from Imperial College London. Currently, Matthew is pursuing an ALM in Extension Studies with a focus on Data Science at Harvard Extension School.
